Preventive Care
Our priority is keeping you healthy and informed so you can make wise decisions when it comes to your well-being. Our Preventive services and tools are aimed at helping members prevent disease or injury rather than helping cure or treat specific medical symptoms.
- Cholesterol Information
High cholesterol levels can lead to heart disease. But, by following a low-saturated-fat, low-cholesterol diet, plus being physically active, you can maintain a healthy weight and help lower your cholesterol level. Medline Plus provides information on managing your cholesterol, including causes, treatment options, diets, medications and a quiz to test your knowledge. It is published by the Patient Education Institute and licensed by the National Library of Medicine.
- The Great American Health Challenge
The American Cancer Society helps educate people on how to reduce their risk of cancer by encouraging them to make healthy lifestyle choices. Consider not smoking or using other tobacco products, maintaining a healthy body weight, getting regular physical activity, eating a healthy diet, limiting alcohol consumption, and getting cancer screening tests.
The Great American Health Challenge promotes healthy living and offers many more tips.
Take a quick nutrition and activity quiz to see if you’re living smart.
- High Blood Pressure Risk
High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a disease typically with no symptoms. The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency that helps people learn how to keep blood pressure in the healthy range, reducing disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
Use the American Heart Association’s High Blood Pressure Risk Calculator to determine if you are at risk for heart attack, stroke, heart failure, or kidney disease.
- Immunizations for Children
Make sure your child is immunized for diseases like polio and diphtheria. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has an easy-to-use Immunization Schedule that provides a list of recommended vaccines and dates.
